So it looks like work is picking up and private jobs are on the rise. ONCORE is proud to be able to say that we’ve rehired most of the work force that we had to send on hiatus with the down economy. Our workload is steadily increasing and the size and scope of the jobs are starting to be more in line with the type for which we have been hoping. Our partnership with Infinity Structures has been a boon to us to say the least. Our workforce is being exceptionally productive and our EMR is .7!! On top of being able to boast the best EMR among concrete subs in the Baltimore/Washington area, we’ve been seeing more and more “ONCORE” performance requests from previous clients and we’re excited to report that we ready for whatever the future brings. WHO ARE WE!?! |
ONCORE's Getting Back in Fighting Shape
For those of you long time readers, you’ll remember that Summer is the time when ONCORE employees revive our annual health initiative. We’ve partnered with Kaiser Permanente to remind us all of the benefits of eating healthy and exercising. On top of hosting a companywide health fair, inviting all spouses and children of all of our employees, we’ve been having monthly meetings with various experts in the field of health. Covering subjects like the updated “food plate” which has recently replaced the outdated “food pyramid” that most of us remember from grade school. Though the initiative is in full swing all summer long, the push for healthy living and safe work habits are a part of the year around culture here at ONCORE. |
Safety Pays!
Well , Bob Mac is passing out $20s again! The latest recipient is Maurice Johnson from ONCORE’s Washington Gas jobsite. Maurice is a new hire here at ONCORE and was just doing his diligence when our own fearless leader tried to enter the jobsite without wearing the proper safety gear. Mr. Johnson kindly let Mr. MacD know that there was not to be anyone on site that was not in the proper attire. BobMac, beaming with pride, reached into his wallet and pulled out one of his famous $20s for Mr. Johnson’s excellent job in safety administration. Maurice, (new to the company and unaware of the $20 program here at ONCORE) must have thought this under dressed stranger was offering him a bribe to get on to the site. Always vigilant, he was adamant that Bob was not going to get on the site no matter how much money he was offered. Bob, asked Maurice if he knew who he was. Maurice politely responded that he did not. Bob pulled out a business card and when Maurice found out he was the company president, he was happy to accept BobMac’s $20, but he was still not going to let Bob on the site until he found a safety vest, hard hat, eye protection and boots. Congratulations to you Maurice; and keep up the good work!

Price Promotion!
After almost five years of loyal service, our estimating department's own, Korey Price has earned a much deserved promotion from Bid Coordinator to Assistant Estimator. These are tumultuous times in the construction industry and Korey is an exemplary employee under difficult circumstances. While having been promoted to Assistant Estimator, Korey still dons his Bid Coordinator hat and has done an outstanding job of handling the added responsibility of his new estimating duties in conjunction with coordinating ONCORE's Estimating department. Congratulations Korey!

Year In Review 2010 - A HAPPIER HOLIDAY FOR ONCORE CONSTRUCTION
As we look back over the year we're most thankful for surviving it, but are also grateful for where we're currently standing overall. ONCORE has recently been awarded a residential project in Arlington, VA we've been working on for about 3 years now. We will be performing this work for a first time client we've had the pleasure of knowing for a long time but have been unsuccessful in procuring work with. We're also extremely excited to have been awarded parking and podium slab at another residential structure in Rockville, MD for a fairly new but repeat customer. HAPPY DAYS are getting near again!!! In our slower periods earlier in the year we took the time to go out and meet with over 300 of our clients employees. Our bid volume is up by over 25% from last year and with some fine tuning here and there were able to double our hit ratio. We also understand our structural engineer friends have workloads that are increasing, great news to all in our industry. Lastly, the best news is our backlog has grown and we've been able to rehire (over 150 of the 400 we had to layoff over the past 16 months) and hire (DC Residents) for our increasing workload. Did we mention HAPPY DAYS again?

Senia with a Bob Mac $20!
Senia Martinez, Oncore’s Payroll Manager pictured here smiling after earning one of Bob MacDaniels' $20 dollar bills! Senia offered up a payroll processing cost saving idea and earned herself some of Mr. MacDaniels money. Way to go Senia. Hope you spent it all on yourself.

Sensing relief is on its way - Is it the dawn of a new day ?
We're pleased as we could be to share some great news. ONCORE has been awarded (3) three new jobs. The first project, the addition of an elevator pit, stair foundation and floor in Washington, DC is with a customer we've worked with in the past and now have the good fortune to work with once more. The second project, the residential component of a DC condominium using our partnership with Infinity Structures, once stopped due to our crazy economy has just restarted. The third project, a residential building in Alexandria, VA is one we've battled for a few years now and could not be more proud we came out on top with an award. We're sensing some relief we believe based on a real increase in our bid activity. We have even been able to rehire and hire employees, including DC residents with the benefit of our new awards.

AN EMR of .68 - ONCORE EARNED IT
We're not going to tell you how we did it, but we did it nonetheless! Our Safety Director Yankee McKay advises it was an all out "group" effort. The ONCORE team made it happen from our jobsite labor force to our safety and risk management department. Way to go ONCORE in stepping up your efforts that have paid off for us BIG TIME. A lower EMR means lower costs to our customers. One of Bob Mac’s $20’s is provided to Yankee for the outstanding effort.

Teaching Old Dogs New Tricks
How could we pass up an opportunity to share how some of our older guard are changing to meet the needs of our customers? You know we can't! Tom Kuegler, Superintendent pictured below is meeting a difficult schedule with a high degree of quality and safety out at a project for Hess Construction and they simply love us for it. Tom's not only making us proud by making Hess happy, he's learning new tricks to apply on this site and future ones with his new laptop, and blackberry providing on the spot communication and problem solving. Did someone say give us an ONCORE?

ONCORE Participates in CANSTRUCTION Competition
A team comprised of individuals from ABC Metro Washington staff, Montgomery College Student Chapter, Keller Brothers, ONCORE Construction LLC and Mid Atlantic Promotions organized, designed, fundraised and then constructed the likeness of the Guggenheim Museum in New York entirely out of canned goods Saturday September 11th from 6:30 pm to midnight in a 6 x 8 space at The Shops, 2000 Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington, DC. The structure will remain up until judging and take down Saturday, October 2. Fingers crossed for some sort of recognition our build team certainly deserves it!!! Way to go Montgomery College Students for getting through the obstacles and crossing the finish line with one stylish structure.
